The camera is an Olympus SP-700 6 MP Digital Camera connected to a desktop PC via USB. It is housed in a custom-built enclosure mounted roughly 20ft above the ground. Two small solar-powered fans provide ventilation during the hottest period of the day. A picture is taken once every 30 seconds using Cam2Com. The picture is then compressed and a text overlay is added by ImageSalsa. ImageSalsa then uploads the final picture to WeatherUnderground and this site. The camera is pointed north towards the Santa Catalina Mountains and Mount Lemmon. |

In early September of 2009, a close lightning strike damaged the usb electronics on the camera and fried the computer it was connected to. This information is left purely for historical purposes. The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 990 3.34MP Digital Camera connected to a desktop PC via USB. It is housed in a custom-built enclosure mounted roughly 20ft above the ground. Two small solar-powered fans provide ventilation during the hottest period of the day. A picture is taken once every minute using cPix Camera Control Software. The picture is then compressed and a text overlay is added by ImageSalsa. ImageSalsa then uploads the final picture to WeatherUnderground and this site. |
